Blueberry Tonic is a supertonic that is loaded with vitamins and antioxidants.

I am sure you have heard that blueberries are incredibly good for you. All its properties are focused on making your life better by healing, supporting, strengthening the immune system, lowering blood pressure, protecting against cancer and aging. It helps maintain brain function and improves memory. It is high in nutrients, low in calories and low in sugar. Blueberry is a superfood. It is also my favorite berry, pretty and tasty.

Growing up in Russia as a child I was waiting for those trips to the forest and lake. Camping in a tent for a few days, cooking on a fire, swimming in the lake and of course picking mushrooms and berries in the forest. There were wild raspberries, wild strawberries, and blueberries throughout. Blueberry was not the easiest of them all, but definitely most rewarding to find, at least it was for me. Small blueberry bushes covered the spaces between the forest trees. At first, you don’t see the berries on the bushes, but as soon as you kneel to the ground and look closer – berries are everywhere, small, dark blue, precious little things.

You can make this blueberry tonic keto-friendly by using monk fruit sweetener or a few drops of Stevia.

When you start to pick them, it seems you will never be able to top your small container or cup, but soon enough it reaches the top. I remember bringing it to my Mom and being proud I got so many. Besides eating it fresh, we used to “blend” it with sugar by using a wooden pestle and eating it as a jam on a piece of white bread or freshly baked crepes. Mom and Grandma always said it is good for you, so we also made a summer drink by mixing blueberries and sugar with cold water.

In Russia, they often preserve blueberries with a sugar mixture for the cold winter days and make hot blueberry tea out of it. It is a great way to get vitamins and antioxidants during the winter.
