We used the Breville BBL560XL Hemisphere Control Blender to make this smoothie. It’s a power-packed blender that quickly draws down what’s on top with its sweeping wide blades. The large container is also lightweight and BPA-free.
Frozen ripe bananas are a natural sweetener and a perfect match for chocolate. Homemade almond milk is rich in flavor and a great alternative to dairy milks especially for those who are lactose intolerant. Cacao beans are seeds of the cacao tree or Theobroma cacao, a small evergreen tree native to Central and South America. The seeds are roasted and ground to produce cocoa powder. When they are dried at a low temperature, they are considered to retain their raw state, which can be eaten whole or broken into small pieces, which we add to our smoothie, called nibs. When ground they produce raw cacao powder.
Raw cacao beans are rich in antioxidants and have many health benefits.
According to Harvard researchers, cacao has the ability to improve blood vessel health. Thus lowering blood pressure and cholesterol numbers. Cocoa beans are rich in flavonoids and antioxidants, which protect our cells from environmental toxins and repair cell damage. A proper balance of antioxidants and free radicals is necessary for proper cellular function. A lack of antioxidants can overwhelm the body’s ability to regulate free radicals, which could eventually lead to oxidative stress.
